Yellowwood Coral is a unique sculpture created by artist Lucy Slivinski. The creation is made from bicycle frames from a collection of 50 or more multicolored frames, brought from Chicago and scrap metals found locally. Slivinski assembled the sculpture in the year 2006 on the lawns of the City Hall.
The name Yellowwood Coral was inspired from fungal formations that Slivinski saw when she was hiking in the Yellowwood Forest near Columbus. On her work Lucy says, “It is my belief that a common thread links all things in life. This thread or chain has many branches radiating out from a single core. In my work, each piece I create is not separate from the next. They are linked through thought, process, belief and experience.”
Currently living in Chicago, Lucy Slivinski completed her MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art in the year 1984. She is well known for making sculptures made from industrial materials like scrap metals, plastic and glass. She collects all these materials from the local salvage yards and transforms these ordinary things into an extraordinary sculpture. The Yellowwood Coral is also such a creation of bicycle frames and scrap metals found in these yards.
