‘Indiana University - Purdue University’, also known as IUPUC is located at Columbus, Indiana. This university offers degree programs from both the universities; Indiana University and Purdue University. This university provides its educational services to the counties like Bartholomew, Jackson, Jennings, Decatur and Johnson.
Originally this university was known as IUPUI Columbus. It was established on August 17th, 1970 when the university had no permanent single campus. So the classes were held at different locations in Columbus. In 1971, Bakalar Municipal Airport spared an old building; the former ‘Civilian Personnel Building’ which served as the first campus. In 1974, it was shifted to the Technical Training Building when first advisory board got appointed. Later in 1982, a big fund was collected from different sources for renovation purpose and by October, 1985, the IUPUI campus was renovated and extended.
Gradually new degree programs were introduced at the university and bigger campus was required. In 1987, IUPUI received 11 acres of land from Columbus Municipal Corporation. In 1989, the university began off campus courses at six different locations around Columbus such as Seymour and Greensburg. In the same year a small building in the campus was renovated which became a ‘science research facility’. New landscaping was placed around the campus in 1990-91. The name of the university was changed in 1994 from IUPUI to IUPUC.
The Center for Economic Education of IUPUC was constructed later. With an agreement with Ivy Tech Community College Columbus, a new project was passed to construct a new building where IUPUC administrative office and other offices of different colleges were to be housed. Apart from these offices, this building was supposed to house classrooms, an IT centre, an auditorium and other facilities for students, teachers and staff. In August 2001, the ground breaking ceremony was celebrated for the new ‘Columbus Learning Center’. The IUPUC campus now holds a museum, a library, math’s centre and a writing centre. The Purdue University College of Technology at Columbus is also on this campus.
At present there are three buildings on the campus of the university. Students housing facility is not provided yet but students can rent apartments here. More than 99,000 students study in IUPUC and the university has around 400,000 alumni. The address and contact number of IUPUC is,
