North Christian Church also known as Disciples of Christ, was found in 1955 at 850 Tipton Lane, Columbus, Indiana, with geographical location as 39.22944°north 85.91472°west. The church building was designed by Eero Saarinen, in 1964. The building has a tall spire projection measuring 59 meter from center with circular window to allow sunlight.
This hexagonal building has an auditorium, a classroom, a kitchen and activity area. This was the last work by the designer who died after completing this building. The roof ends on the trapezoidal base supported with steel beams. This modern work has good light variant interior and furniture.
On weekdays the church is open from morning 8:00 am to evening 5:00 pm. On Sundays the church is open from 7:30 am and has special programs such as Sunday School for all age groups at 9:00 am, Worship Program at 10:30 am and Coffee Fellowship at 11:45 am. Specialty of this church is child care division and handicap assistance unit. Among the staff Dr. Lanny Lawler is the senior minister, Rev. Marie F. Fleming is the Minister for Children education, Dr. David C. Sims is the director of music, Denise A. Packer is the finance Secretary and Wally Fuetterer is the present Trustee. The Auditorium has a total capacity of 420 seats and the sanctuary is covered with tables. Inside the sanctuary, one could find Hexagonal Dias with communion table, along with organ pipe, two plants and silver cross on the Christ table. The church is surrounded by magnolia trees which bloom in spring creating fantastic atmosphere. In spring, entire campus has pink curtain look due to pink magnolia flowers.
The church has various groups such as Bridge Fellowship, Kid Knit the Mystery, Knitting Fellowship, Disciples Women’s Ministry, Disciples Men’s Fellowship and others who are often supported by other outside organizations. The church does not have official doctrine like any other church and believes in Jesus Christ being the Son of God, their Savior of Earth and their Personal Lord. People from various occupation and trade enjoy being a Member of this church. Members promote Social and religious activities, donations, Annual Church Picnic, Care for Nature and education in and around Columbus.
