Located 7 kms (4 miles) southwest from the centre of the city Bloomington, this airport - Monroe County Airport, is 258 meters above the sea level and is spread over the area of 1035 acres. The airport is owned by the county Monroe and is open to public.

The airport has two runways paved with asphalt. The length of the runway was 5200 feet when it was originally constructed. Later it was made 6500 feet long so that even a Boeing 727 aircraft can use it.

After that in 1995, the entire parking ramp for aircraft was reconstructed so as to make it available for the larger aircrafts as well. They added 13 hangers to it at this time. Two FBO services are available at the airport; BMG Aviation and Cook Aviation. Yearly count of the aircraft operations goes up to 51,177, i.e.140 per day!

This airport is in operation since 3rd of January 1942. The aircrafts that fly to and from here are 78 single engine aircrafts, 14 multi engine aircrafts, 5 jet engine aircrafts, 3 helicopters and 1 ultra light aircraft. Amongst the jet aircrafts there are some private jets which include light, medium and large engine jets and turbo props.

There is an air traffic control tower here. The latest inspection of the airport was done by FAA airports field personnel on 22nd March, 2007. The inspection method is federal. Major services are available here for air frame repair and power plant repair. This airport is used for the military landings as well. If you have a private aircraft and you can arrange a pilot who is licensed to fly, you can also land your private aircraft at the Monroe County Airport.
